Service limitations

  • Downloading - session restrictions are as follows:

    • Single file must not exceed the size of 100MB
    • Total size of download session must not exceed 100MB
    • Total number of files in session must not exceed 100

Downloading files exceeding the above limitations should be carried out over the free Pogoplug Backup software which is particularly designed for large capacity content or multiple files and folders. Please note that in order to use Pogoplug Backup, the 'sharee' will need to create a (free) Pogoplug account and then use the 'Add to my own Pogoplug cloud' option:

  • Imbedded hard drive limitations - Pogoplug is designed to be compatible with consumer USB, USM/SATA drives and SD cards. Aside from the supported formats there are additional exceptions:

    • Password protected drives
    • Drives with embedded power management
    • Encrypted drives

  • Uploading - we do have limits on the amount of bandwidth that we are able to get in and out of our data centers. While we operate at a scale that is well beyond the speeds most people have contemplated, it is still a finite pipe that must handle all of the simultaneous files that are being backed up by our millions of users. We did our best to come up with a system to allocate our resources that is fair to all of our users, not just users with the fastest internet speeds. Our primary goal is to get people’s initial back up done as fast as possible. In order to do this, for the first 1TB of storage we allow files to be backed up as fast as our users can send them. We chose this amount of storage because we felt it was well beyond the initial amount that people would need to back up to feel safe. For users beyond 1TB, we take our remaining bandwidth and evenly distribute it across those users. We are constantly adding additional bandwidth and infrastructure, and when we do everybody benefits.

  • Streaming- Pogoplug Cloud automatically creates a preview version of movies that are under 1.5GB in size and under 20 minutes in length. The preview is used when you view it from the web, share a movie using a share link, or watch the movie from the web or mobile apps.
If you upload a movie over 1.5GB or longer than 20 minutes, you will not be able to play the video at and share a link to the video where it can be downloaded

  • Filesystem limitations (completely dependent on the HD's storing method):

    • FAT32    4GB limit for a single file
    • NTFS     16EB for either file or drive size
    • ETX2/3  2TB for a single file, 32 TB for the drive
    • HFS+     8EB for either file or drive size
    • HFS       2GB for single file, 2 TB for a drive
